Frequently Asked Questions

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions—about logistics, cost, what to expect, and how it all works.

Here are some of the most common ones to help you feel more informed and at ease.

  • We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to get a sense of what you’re looking for and whether we’re a good fit. You can schedule with a specific therapist, or we can help you figure out who on our team might be the right match. During the call, we’ll talk through your goals, answer questions, and walk you through what therapy could look like with us. If it feels like a match, we’ll schedule your first session.

  • Clients come to us for all kinds of reasons—some big and life-shifting, others quieter but still important. We support people navigating anxiety, identity exploration, relationship stress, trauma, life transitions, parenting, and neurodivergence, among many other experiences.

You don’t have to be in crisis to start therapy. Sometimes you just need a place to slow down, be honest, and figure things out with someone who’s really listening.

  • Sessions are typically 45 minutes. We recommend weekly therapy at the start, so you and your therapist have time to build trust and gain momentum toward your goals.

For children and adolescents, we begin with two 60-minute intake sessions—one with caregivers, and one with the child or teen.

For couples and family work, we’ll often meet with each member of the partnership or family system individually at the beginning of treatment, and again as needed throughout the process.

We’ll work with you to find a schedule that’s supportive and sustainable.

  • Finding the right therapist is one of the most important parts of starting therapy. If someone on our team already feels like the right match, you’re welcome to schedule a consultation directly with them.

Not sure who to choose? That’s totally normal. We can talk through what you're looking for and help you land with the therapist who’s the best fit for your needs, preferences, and goals. We’re a collaborative practice, and we want you to feel supported from the very beginning.

  • Our office is located just off Union Square, near the 4/5/6, N/Q/R/W, L, and F/M subway lines. It’s an elevator-accessible space that’s warm, private, and intentionally designed to feel calm—even when the city outside isn’t.

We’re a small practice, so you won’t find a crowded waiting room or hallway of closed doors. Just a welcoming, low-key space that makes room for real conversations.

  • We’re an out-of-network provider, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. However, we can provide monthly superbills (receipts for services) that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Many clients receive partial reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits. We’re happy to walk you through how to check your benefits or help you get started with the process.

  • We reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients who need financial flexibility. These rates are based on reported income and need, and are typically available during daytime hours.

If cost is a barrier, we encourage you to reach out—we’re happy to talk through options and help you access care that works for your budget.

  • Yes—fully, thoughtfully, and with deep respect. We are a queer-owned, queer-affirming, gender-affirming, and trauma-informed practice. Our clinicians are LGBTQIA+ identified and/or deeply competent allies who bring experience, humility, and care to this work.

Whether you're exploring identity, navigating relationships, seeking support around transition, or just want a therapist who gets it—you’re welcome here. You don’t have to educate us or start from scratch.

  • Yes. We offer individual supervision for clinicians seeking psychodynamic, relational, and identity-affirming guidance as they deepen their practice. Supervision is led by Beth Gladstone, LCSW, a certified SIFI instructor with experience supervising at both the graduate and post-graduate levels.

We welcome new and seasoned therapists who are looking for thoughtful case formulation, space to build confidence, and support in developing their clinical voice. If you're curious about supervision at our practice, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to talk through fit and availability.

  • We’re always open to connecting with thoughtful, collaborative therapists who resonate with our values. If you're interested in joining a small, relationally focused, identity-affirming practice, we’d love to hear from you.

We especially welcome clinicians who bring lived experience, share identities with the communities we serve, and are committed to ongoing self-reflection and clinical growth.
